Start with the completed entry in the browser Downloads screen. It connects the saved file to the transfer you just made and is more useful than guessing from similar filenames.
Confirm that the transfer finished
Open the browser used for the download and inspect its Downloads list. Wait if the relevant entry is still active. A failed or incomplete entry is not ready for installation even if part of the filename is visible. Read the status before trying to open it.
Use the time of the transfer, filename and file details together. If you tapped the control several times, more than one entry can exist. A name ending in (1) or (2) usually distinguishes saved names; it is not proof that the file is a later release. Compare the source and offered version when choosing which completed entry to use.
Open through the recorded location
Use the browser's open or show-file action when it provides one. Alternatively, the device file manager can show the Downloads folder, but the exact location and menu names depend on the phone and browser. Do not invent a fixed path if your device stores the file elsewhere.
Make sure you are checking the same device on which the file was saved. A download made on a computer or another phone does not automatically appear on this handset. Cloud or browser synchronisation of history is not the same as transferring the package itself.
When opening the file does not start installation
Read what appears. A text document, web page or archive viewer can mean you selected a different file or the response was not the package you expected. Renaming an HTML file to .apk does not turn it into an Android application. Return to the intended source and identify what was actually offered.
If Android opens its installer, the file-location task is complete. Continue with the app identity, source and warning checks in the full Download guide. If it reports an error, preserve that wording; finding the file and accepting it for installation are different results.
Avoid solving the wrong storage problem
The saved APK and the installed app are separate objects. Deleting an unfinished duplicate download is not the same as clearing app data, and finding a file does not require removing a working app. Before any cleanup, identify which item you intend to manage and whether it is the only completed copy.
For example, a recent completed entry and an older failed entry can share a similar name. Use the status and source of the completed transfer, not whichever filename sorts first. This keeps the next Android prompt tied to the file you deliberately chose.
Know when to stop
The task is complete when you can identify and open the intended completed file. If you cannot establish its source or Android warns about it, stop before installation and resolve that issue.
